Imperfectionism & the Wooden Boat

Talks & demonstrations

Event description

Lawrence Cheek & Peter Gron - Lawrence has been a professional journalist since the age of 15, author of 15 books and an amateur boatbuilder since 2002. He has built a Pygmy kayak, Redfish cedar-strip kayak, a 14' sailing dinghy & a Devin gaff-rigged pocket cruiser. His book "The Year of the Boat", chronicled his struggle to achieve a passable level of imperfection in building his ideal boat. Peter grew up on Vancouver Island and spent most of his life in, on or around water. After college and two years in New Zealand & Australia he moved to the British Columbia Gulf Islands and rediscovering his passion for boats and sailing. Peter built a Devlin designed 23' sloop and will join Lawrence in discussing their different approaches to boatbuilding craftsmanship.
